SIPE rites on Friday

Services for Ethel Mae SIPE, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Kincaid and the Rev. D.O. Van Dyne officiating. Burial will be in the Packwood Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. SIPE died at 7:10 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson County Hospital where she had been a patient for 11 days.

Ethel Mae SIPE was born March 30, 1895, in Bloomington, Ill., the daughter of Francis Marion and Amelia Etta SNODGRASS JOHNSON.

She was married to John W. SIPE Dec. 24, 1917, in Ottumwa. He survives. The family home is at 204 W. Hempstead.

Mrs. SIPE lived most of her life in Jefferson County and in her early years was a school teacher in the Martinsburg and Packwood schools. She had spent 21 years teaching in rural schools.

Mrs. SIPE was a member of the First Christian Church, Retired Teachers Association, Mary Martha Group of the Christian Church, World War Auxiliary and Jefferson County and Hospital Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five daughters and a son: Elsie McDONALD, Eagle Point, Oregon; Arlene BUSSERT, Concord, Calif.; Norma THORNBURG, Danville; Lois JAMESON, Burlington; and J. Dale SIPE, Ottumwa.

Also eight grandchildren; one brother, Emory M. JOHNSON, Vallejo, Calif.; and Elsie JOHNSON, Sacramento, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and a sister.
