Gertrude MANLEY dies

Gertrude MANLEY, 86, formerly of 608 W. Van Buren, died Monday at 4:45 p.m. at the Nelson Nursing Home where she had been a resident five years.

The service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The daughter of Jasper and Alice WHITICKER LATHROP, she was born July 19, 1985 (error: should be 1895) in Fairfield. She married George MANLEY Sept. 2, 1912 in Fairfield. He died Aug. 29, 1961.

She had lived her entire life in Jefferson County. She was a member of the Foursquare Church.

She is survived by five sons and three daughters, Forrest MANLEY, Ottumwa, George MANLEY Jr., Burlington, Wayne MANLEY, Elmwood, Ill., Maynard MANLEY, Cedar Rapids, Gerald MANLEY, Fairfield, Dora TISOR, Columbus City, Helen CLARK, Cedar Rapids and Betty MILLIGAN, Waterloo. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
