John M. CALHOUN

John M. CALHOUN, 74, of Washington, Ill., died at 3:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Washington.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington, Ill., with the Rev. Richard Sullins officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton, Ill.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation also will be held one half-hour before service at the church. Memorials may be made to Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington.

Mr. CALHOUN was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Jefferson County, the son of Manley and Loretta LATHROP CALHOUN. He married Mary L. KUENZI June 22, 1978, in Washington.

He was an auto mechanic and owned and operated Jonnie's Texaco in Fairfield and later owned and operated Willow Street Marathon in Pekin, Ill. He lived in Washington, Ill., for more than 20 years.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific arena.

Mr. CALHOUN attended the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Washington, Ill., and was a member of the Pekin (Ill.) American Legion Post 44.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David CALHOUN and Jill of Tremont, Ill., and Mike CALHOUN and Tammy of Pekin, Ill.; two brothers, Don CALHOUN of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Tom CALHOUN of Fairfield; three sisters, Betty BAILEY of Wayonka, Okla., Ellen CALHOUN of Fairfield and Mary SEWARD of Pekin, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mildred FITZWATER.
