Merrill Franklin COOKSEY, 81, of 405 Highland Ave. died at 6:25 p.m. Saturday at Parkview Care Center.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Albert officiating. Following the service he will be cremated. The burial of the urn will be held at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Fairfield VFW Post No. 2271 or World War II memorial.
Mr. Cooksey was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Keosauqua, the son of William Jasper and Bertha Ursula STINE COOKSEY. He married Margaret E. ALLISON Sept. 14, 1942.
He lived most of his life in the Libertyville and Fairfield communities. He was employed at Connor Brothers Construction, Acco-Babcock Chain and Cable, and a correction officer in Jefferson County. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in the southeast Pacific Theater.
He was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and the Fairfield VFW Post No. 2271.
Survivors include three sons, Robert COOKSEY and wife Eve of Virginia Beach, Va., Raymond COOKSEY and Debbie of Mount Pleasant and Randy COOKSEY and wife Deanna of Fairfield; one daughter Teressa YUNG and husband Gordon of Holdrege, Neb.; seven grandchhildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister Ruth DENNY of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Lyle and Raymond Dale COOKSEY; two sisters Amy Charlene DAUGHERTY and Ursula Marcene GILL; and one grandson.
