Dora Evelyn WALKER

Dora Evelyn WALKER, 96, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at All-American Care Center in Washington.

A celebration of life service is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jones and Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, with the Rev. Darryl Carr officiating.

Visitation begins at noon Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m..

Interment will be at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.

Mrs. WALKER was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Brighton, the daughter of Robert Louis and Nina Edna HOLE DUNBAR. She married Charles Wesley WALKER June 28, 1941, in Memphis, Mo. He died in 1999.

She graduated from Brighton High School.

She had been a resident of Washington, Iowa, for most of her life.

She worked at the American Pearl Button Factory and later retired from the University of Iowa.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington, Iowa.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, scrap booking and genealogy.

She was very interested in Native American history and she was proud to be part Cherokee.

Survivors include one daughter, Judith Ann BODKINS of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren: 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Virginia "Ginger" HOBDAY of California; and one brother, James DUNBAR of Brighton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.
