Darryl J. Payne, 62, formerly of the Fairfield area, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Per his wishes, the body has been cremated. A celebration of life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center. A private family inurnment will be held.

No formal visitation is planned. Prugh Funeral Service in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in his memory.

Mr. Payne was born April 24, 1941, in Bethany, Mo., the son of Walter and Ida Mae Turner Payne. He married Sandra K. Bean April 26, 1969, in Ottumwa.

Mr. Payne was the night auditor at Best Western Motel.

He was affiliated with the Jehovahs Witnesses. He liked to read and watch television.

Survivors include his wife of Fairfield; two brothers, Bert D. Payne of Bloomfield and Stacy P. Payne of Perry; and two sisters, Rodetta Bever of Des Moines and Sylvia Woodard of Baxter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
