Harriet L. Metcalf, 81, of Greentown, Ind., died at 4:53 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2003, in her home.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greentown Wesleyan Church in Greentown, with the Rev. Paul Boss officiating. Burial will be in Forestville Cemetery in Summitville, Ind.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. today at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, 400 E. Main St., in Gas City, Ind.

Memorials may be made to Fairmount Christian Church, 217 N. Walnut St., Fairmount, IN 46928; Greentown Wesleyan Church, Greentown; or to Grant County Humane Society, 2768 W. Avon Ave., Marion, IN 46953.

Mrs. Metcalf was born in Kankakee, Ill., the daughter of Watson and Carrie Lownes Hixson. She married Warren C. Metcalf. He preceded her in death May 9, 1997.

She and her husband lived in Alexandria before moving to Gas City. They were co-owners of Metcalf's Newsstand in Gas City. She also managed Royces Shoe Store in Marion and formerly worked at WT Grant in Marion; the Ben Franklin Store and McDonalds of Gas City. She also was a crossing guard at Fourth and Main streets in Gas City for the Mississinewa School System.

She was a member of Fairmount Christian Church and attended Greentwon Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Rebecca Morris of Ossian, Ind., Catherine Johnson and husband Von of Greentown, Patricia Edgington and husband Bruce of Peru, Ind., Madeline Williams and husband Gary of Fairfield and Lisa Dessing and husband Rick of Butte, Mont.; 14 grandchildren; and 16-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary and one infant brother.
