MRS. BLACK PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Mode BLACK, former local resident, passed away last night in her sleep at Des Moines where she and her husband were residing (sic. the date used in the obituary of her husband Moses "Mode" BLACK was June 20, 1945. Jefferson county genealogy sources used June 19, 1945. It depends on what "last night" means - before or after midnight).

The body wil be brought to the Hoskins funeral home here and funeral arrangements are pending arrival of relatives.

Edith KIRKPATRICK BLACK was born in Fairfield, attended school here, and was a member of the Presbyterian church. Mr. BLACK was engaged in the harness business with Will Moore and William Lewis at one time. The BLACKs left Fairfield about forty years ago.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Raymond EMERY of Des Moines; Mrs. Charles CAMPBELL of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Joe STRUNCE (sic. a/k/a STUNTZ) of Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey; one son, Ray BLACK of California; one sister, Nellie KIRKPATRICK of Battle Creek, Michigan; and two cousins, Mrs. Harry SMITH, 51½ East Broadway and L.O. GAINES, 608 S. Main (sic. both of those addresses were in Fairfield, Iowa).
