Mrs. SMITH, 77, Taken In Death

Mrs. Bessie BURNETT SMITH, 77, died 12:50 a.m. today at Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa where she had resided for the past four years.

Mrs. SMITH was a longtime resident of Fairfield. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. E. Wayne Ryan. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. SMITH was born Jan. 22, 1892 at Gilson, Ill., the daughter of William and Elizabeth Rae LONGWELL. She was married Jan. 9, 1910 to Samuel A. BURNETT. On Sept. 16, 1945 she was married to Samuel K. SMITH. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1953.

Mrs. SMITH was a member of the Free Methodist Church. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Beulah BAKER, Fairfield; Harold BURNETT, Newton; and Gerald BURNETT, Des Moines. Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. Three brothers and one son are deceased.

News Of Local People

... --Robert M. BAKER of Knoxville, Tenn., arrived Jan. 1 at the home of his mother, Mrs. Beulah BAKER, 304 W. Broadway. He had been called here by the death of his grandmother, Mrs. Bessie BURNETT SMITH, and plans to remain until Saturday afternoon. He teaches in the rural high school near Knoxville.
