Merle G. WALTER, 69, Fairfield, died at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Hospital where he had been a patient the past 10 days.
The casket will be transferred from the Behner Funeral Home to the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Mo., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Eloise Shoults officiating. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton.
Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Behner Funeral Home. Visitation at Canton will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Davis Funeral Home.
Merle G. WALTER was born April 7, 1912, at Canton, the son of Clay and Ethel Mae CLARK WALTER. He was married to Margaret ROBERSON Feb. 6, 1943, at Kahoka, Mo. She died Nov. 25, 1979, in Fairfield.
Walter was a janitor at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant for 12 years before his retirement and a member of the Centenary Methodist Church in Canton.
He was a former resident of Lockridge and a resident of Fairfield for the past 20 years.
He is survived by two daughters: Sandra Sue WALTER and Judy Ann HEARN, both of Fairfield.
Two grandchildren, four sisters and a brother also survive: Ula WALTER, Dorothy UHLMEYER and Mary WALTER, all of Canton; Carlene BROWN, Lewistown, Mo.; and Gilbert WALTER, Canton.
In addition to his wife Walter was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
