BATAVIA - Robert L THOMAS, 84, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday at his home south of Batavia.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.
THOMAS was born April 28, 1897 at Cedar, the son of John and Mary MADISON THOMAS. He was a mail carrier in Ottumwa before transferring to Batavia as a rural carrier. He had also farmed south of Batavia. He was a member of American Legion WWI Barracks and the First Congregational Church in Ottumwa.
He married Edith HARGESHEIMER, who died in 1951. On Feb. 27, 1954 he married Margaret GROVES in Ottumwa. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert of Newton, Ala., Gordon Eugene of Bourbonnais, Ill.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
