“Nathaniel Quakenbush, an old resident of Jefferson County, died at the home of this son John Quakenbush, in Black Hawk Township Thursday. He was about 88 years of age and his residence in this county dated back into the ‘40’s.”

Nathaniel Quackenbush died 4th inst.; resident of this county since 1845. Born in Chatham Co., N.C. Dec 15 1803; married Rebecca Gilham in 1823; she died 1864. Eight children, only two now living, John in this county and Mrs. Nancy Bristow in Taylor County, Mr. Q. married Fannie Fitch in 1888 and she died a year later. Methodist Church. First class meetings in Woolson neighborhood were held in his home, a log house, with F. F. Lyon as leader…..Interred at Richland.
