William Rice, son of William and Mary Rice, was born in Perry Co., Penn. in 1827, died Thurs. Dec 19 1912 aged 85-5-7; married Sarah Orr Jan 24 1861; ten children, four having preceded their father in death -- Anna, Ella May, William Foster, and one son in infancy. The wife, four sons and two daughters survive: Jas. E.; John O.; Oliver L. and Joseph A., all living near the old home place; Mrs. Mary Hadley at Centerville, and Mrs. Ida Morgan in Burlington. Had he lived until 24 Jan. he would have been married 52 years. United with the Lutheran church at his boyhood home. Moved with his family to Iowa in 1870 and settled on the farm where he spent the remainder of his life. United with the Methodist church in 1870, always an active, faithful member. Stricken with paralysis about two weeks prior to his death. Funeral held at McDowell chapel Sunday 11 o’clock…..
