Clarence W. COURTNEY

Clarence W. COURTNEY, 90, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 1993, at Nelson Nursing Home.

He was born March 22, 1902, in Agency, the son of Charles W. and Myrtle HOPKINS COURTNEY. He married Edna NORDGREN on June 17, 1923, in Estes Park, Colo., and she survives.

Courtney was a car dealer and a mechanic for his own business, Courtney's Garage, until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member and past member of Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15 AF & AM, and KAABA Temple in Davenport.

He served as fire chief for Fairfield Fire Department for several years.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley HERTEL of Fairfield and Marilyn JUNGMAN of Mesa, Ariz.; one son, Robert COURTNEY of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Kathryn McCOMBS of Agency and Margaret Bartholow of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by a son, William; a sister, Thelma KRAFKA; and two brothers, Owen and Charles.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Behner Funeral Home, the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Masonic rites will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Behners, followed by family visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Memorials have been established to First United Methodist Church, the Fairfield Fire Department, the Blind Commission and Nelson Nursing Home.
