JAS. MENEELEY PASSED AWAY. Death Follows Quickly That of Wife. He was born in Washington Co., Penn., March 1, 1838, and when 8 years old moved with his parents to Lee County, where he spent two years and then the family moved to Jeffeson Co., residing in Beckwith. On March 14, 1859, in Wooster, Mr. MENEELEY was united in marriage to Miss Artimisia MCCULLOUGH. They resided on a farm about nine miles east of this city for several years, moving to Fairfield 28 years ago. When Pres. Lincoln called for volunteers to fight for the Union in 1861, Mr. MENEELEY enlisted, being mustered into service Sept. 4, 1861, in Company M, Third Iowa Cavalry, at Wooster. He was honorably discharged Aug. 10, 1865, in Davenport, having conducted himself as a brave soldier during the four years of that terrible war. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. MENEELEY, four of whom with their mother have already passed over the river of death. The surviving children are Mrs. Edna BUSH of near this city, Miss Laura and Ed, and John of this city. The aged mother of the deceased, Mrs. Margaret MENEELEY also survives, and one brother, George, who lives at Oakland Mills. The mother of Mr. MENEELEY is 96 years of age and has made her home here with her son for a number of years....The last service will be in charge of the G. A. R. and all old soldiers. Note: Artimisia died Feb. 18, 1909. An undocumented clipping in Hiram HEATON'S Scrap Book relates that her brother John T. MCCULLOUGH served as Captain of Co. E, 2nd Iowa Inf. another brother, Hamilton MCCULLOUGH, served in the 17th Iowa and was killed in battle with his commission as a lieutenant in his pocket; and a half-brother, Jonathan MCCULLOUGH, served in Co.
