LIVED ALMOST A CENTURY. Mrs. Margaret MANEELY, aged 98, died Saturday--Had Remarkable LIfe. Mrs. Margaret (NEWSOME) MANEELY, who celebrated her 98th birthday on Aug. 17th and who is thought to be the oldest woman in Iowa, died Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock after only a few days' illness. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. MANEELY was one of the best known of the old settlers of Jefferson County...She was born in Pennsylvania, Aug. 17, 1813, and in 1835 was united in marriage to William MANEELY at Wheeler Hills, Pa. To them were born three sons, one of whom, George MANEELY of Mt. Pleasant still survives. He will celebrate his 76th birthday next Sunday. The husband, William, and a son by the same name have been dead many years, and the second son, James, of this city, passed away about two years ago. Besides her son, Mrs. MANEELY is survived by one sister, Mrs. PEASE of Mt. Hamill who is 77 years of age, and 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. MANEELY came with her husband and parents to the west in 1844 when they made the trip by wagon. She was a resident of Lee County and Van Buren County previous to moving to Glasgow nearly half a century ago. She has made her home in Fairfield about 30 years....Her death occurred at the home of her granddaughter, Miss Laura MANEELY...
