Harvey G. McCLEARY

Harvey G. McCLEARY, age 73 of Batavia, passed away at 6:35 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 4 at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2:00 PM, Friday at Grace Funeral Care in Batavia, where the family will be present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Masonic Rites will be offered at 5:00 PM.

Harvey Glenn McCLEARY was born on August 20, 1938 in rural Floris, Iowa, the son of Ray Ira and Ocie Maude LONGERBONE McCLEARY.

He was educated in Batavia, and was a member of the first graduating class form Cardinal High School in 1958. From 1959 to 1962 Harvey served in the United States Army, spending 13 months in Korea.

On May 12, 1962 he married Kay HARRISON.

Survivors include his wife Kay McCLEARY of Batavia; one son, Mark McCLEARY and wife Janet of Elgin, IL; two daughters, Wendy PEARSON and husband Ralph, Jr. of Birmingham, and Marcy DIAL and husband Eric of Fairfield; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice THOMSEN of Mechanicsville, and Betty Lou PUMPHREY and husband Jack of Hedrick; one brother, Harley McCLEARY and wife Pat of Grand Junction, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Agnes SICKLES, and five brothers, Stanley, Lloyd, David, Allen, and Thomas.

Harvey retired in 1995 after 31 years of service to John Deere, where he worked in the experimental department.

He was a member of the Batavia Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

A memorial fund is being established for Hospice of Davis and Wapello County.
