Ferne Elizabeth Mineart, 85, of Fairfield died at 12:06 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home.

A wake service will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by the family receiving friends until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to St. Mary Catholic Church or Fairfield Public Library.

Mrs. Mineart was born May 20, 1918, southwest of Libertyville in Des Moines Township of Jefferson County, the daughter of A.L. and Hazel Ferne Hill Goehring. She married Sylvester H. "Bud" Mineart May 20, 1941, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain. He died April 25, 1998.

Mrs. Mineart grew up southwest of Libertyville. She graduated from Libertyville High School and took normal training for her teaching certification. She taught school for five years. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in Washington County and northwest of Fairfield prior to moving into Fairfield in March 1969. She worked in the dietary department at the Jefferson County Hospital.

When she was younger, she was a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church. Later she became a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of Altar and Rosary Society, Victory Club and was formerly a 4-H leader.

Survivors include six daughters, Mary Margaret Wagner of Burlington, Rosalie Kinney and husband Clarence of Bloomfield, Carol Harrell of Orange Park, Fla., Marilyn Mineart of Independence, Mo., Ann Drum and husband Deryl of Troy, Ill., and Martha Buckman and husband Ben of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glen Goehring of Marion and Carroll and Raymond Goehring, both of Fairfield; and two sisters, Mabel Berg of Waverly and Darlene Reynolds of Nashville, Tenn.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Karl and Keith Goehring.

Your story was okay with the spelling of Mabel as that is the original spelling, but the last name is what I was looking at: Berg is correct. You might want to check with the daughters.

RE: THE OBITUARY FOR FERNE MINEART: It is nicely written, but with two mistakes. Ferne Mineart has two living sisters. One, not listed is Darlene Reynolds of Nashville, Tennessee. Her sister, Mable Berg's last name is mispelled. If you could make these correction, we thank you. Signed...one of the sisters-in-law.
