Desda G. SMITH

Desda G. SMITH, 61, of Arizona City, Ariz, former Fairfield resident, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 1994, at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix.

A memorial service was conducted Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande, Ariz. Memorial contributions may be made to Barrow Neurological Center, in care of Dr. Spetzler, director of the Neurological Research Group, 350 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, 85013.

Mrs. SMITH was born Aug.19, 1933, in Stockport. She and her husband of 41 years, Duane, moved to Arizona from Fairfield in 1977. An artist, she did scenes of the Southwest and exhibited her works in galleries in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. She taught many art classes in Arizona City and through the Casa Grande Parks and Recreation Department. Her works appear in private collections in the United States and Canada. She was active in a number of organizations throughout her life, including Fairfield Business and Professional Women, of which she was a past president.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Jodi SMITH of Phoenix; two sons, Kevin of Chino Hills, Calif., Brian of Santa Barbara, Calif., one grandchild; her mother, Roberta MAHON of Fairfield; four brothers, Robert NELSON of Ococe, Fla., Richard NELSON of Wilson, OkIa., Larry NELSON of Morena Valley, Calif., and Alan MAHON of Theodosia, Mo. Her father, Merle NELSON, and a sister, Carol LAWSON, preceded her in death.

Note: Desda was my sister-in-law.
