Margaret FLAYHARTY, 88, fomerly a resident of Gladstone and Cairo in Missouri and Fairfield, died Sunday evening, Jan. 5, 2003, at Loma Linda Nursing Home in Moberly, Mo.
A graveside service was arranged by D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel in Gladstone at the cemetery there.
Mrs. FLAYHARTY was born Sept. 25, 1914, in Morehead. She married Roy B. FLAYHARTY. He died in 1981.
She was a former school teacher. She began her career in one-room rural school houses in Jefferson County and in Pleasant Plain and Pekin schools. Her last position was in Winnwood Elementary at North Kansas City schools.
She and her family lived in Fairfield for many years. They moved in 1960 to Olathe, Kan.
Mrs. FLAYHARTY spent her retirement years in Gladstone, serving for 17 years as a volunteer with Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry. She also worked at the Gladstone Senior Citizens Center in the cancer action program and for some years as a tax counselor for the elderly.
Survivors include two daughters, Sally JONES and husband Jack of Oskaloosa and Sandra LEATHERS and husband Glenn of Cairo; one son Ross Anthony FLAYHARTY and wife Jamie of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three sisters.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her husband; two grandsons; two sisters; and three brothers.
