Robert L. CAPPS

The Rev. Robert L. CAPPS, 90, formerly of Farson and Richland, died Monday June 18, 2012, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Brethren Cemetery northeast of Ollie with the Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Richland American Legion Post No. 504 will conduct military honors.

Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home, brought to the cemetery or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 544, Hedrick 52563.

The Rev. CAPPS was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Clarence J. and Martha Amy ROSE CAPPS. He married Jean GILLAM Feb. 8, 1946 in Ottumwa. She died Feb. 7, 2003.

His family moved to Farson when CAPPS was a young boy.

He was an ordained Baptist minister for more than 50 years, last serving Farson Baptist Church. He worked for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad for 36 years as a depot agent living in Linby, Ollie, Farson and Richland.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria GOEKE and spouse Randy of Williamsburg and Candy BREON and spouse Ervin LEE Jr. of Hedrick; three sons: Reese CAPPS and spouse Kathy of Coralville, Craig CAPPS and spouse Ila of Kalona and Bradley CAPPS and spouse Sue of Warrensburg, Mo.; 19 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Vernon CAPPS of South San Francisco, Calif.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and 10 brothers and sisters.
