Kermit BLACK

BATAVIA -- The Rev. Kermit BLACK, 77, of rural Batavia, longtime minister of People's Church in Batavia, died today, Friday, Nov. 1, 1991, at his home.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at People's Church with the Rev. Jack Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Visitation will be open after 2 p.m. Sunday at People's Church, where family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. A memorial has been established to BLACK's church. Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kermit R. BLACK

BATAVIA -- The service for the Rev. Kermit R. BLACK, 77, of rural Batavia, who died Friday, Nov. 1, 1991, at his home, was held at 11 a.m. today at People's Church north of Batavia, with the Rev. Jack Jackson, Joe Selix and Danny Cary officiating. Burial was in Batavia Cemetery. Memorials were established to BLACK's church and to the Kidney Care Unit at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia was in charge.

BLACK was born Jan. 12, 1914, on the farm north of Batavia, where he lived his entire life, the son of Carl and Sarah McDOWELL BLACK. He attended Hickory Ridge and Batavia schools. On April 23, 1936, he married Lois I. HOLZHAUSER in Ottumwa. She died Sept. 20, 1991. He farmed, owned and operated Black's Dairy, and had been a carpenter for many years. He was ordained in 1953, when he was accepted into the Association of Fundamental Ministers and Churches. The founder and pastor of People's Church, he had ministered in the Batavia area for more than 50 years. He retired in 1991 because of illness. He was national chairman for the Association of Fundamental Ministers and Churches for more than 21 years and was a member of Hickory Ridge Club for many years.

Surviving are a daughter, Dixie JAMESON of Ottumwa; a son, Darrel of Dakota City; four grandchildren; three sisters, Florence BOCKEMUEHL of Cedar Rapids, Louise DAILY and Edith DAVIS, both of Fairfield. His parents preceded him in death.
