Darline Frances HOOTMAN HORN

Darline Frances HOOTMAN HORN, 87, of Winterset, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Care Center South in Winterset.

Memorial services were held Feb. 17, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with the Rev. Beverlee Bell officiating. Visitation was Feb. 16, at the First United Methodist Church.

The cremains will be interred in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Douds.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

Mrs. HORN was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Walter and Emma ZUEHLKE HOOTMAN. She married Thomas G. HORN in 1946. They divorced in 1976.

Mrs. HORN grew up in the Douds area and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1941.

She taught at rural schools for several years.

She arrived in Winterset in 1960, where she worked as an accountant with JC Penny's (sic - J. C. Penney's) there and in Cedar Rapids. She also worked for Winterset Community Schools as head of the hot lunch program.

She enjoyed her many hours of volunteering at the Madison County Hospital, as well as crossword puzzles, traveling, crocheting and reading.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Tops, Winterset Child Welfare Club and the First United Methodist Church of Winterset.

She delighted in spending time in the homes of her sons and visiting with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

Survivors include: four sons, Thomas and spouse Susan of Adel, Richard and spouse Beverly of Sarasota, Fla., Darrell and spouse Elizabeth of West Des Moines and Eric and spouse Maureen of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen FINNEY and Norma DINGMAN; and one daughter-in-law, Robin HORN.
