Lewis BUSSEY dies at 61

Lewis H. BUSSEY, 61, 906 E. Monroe, longtime manager of the Fairfield Rockwell International plant, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He had been in failing health, which had caused him to take early retirement only three-and-a-half months ago.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Riggs officiating. Burial wil be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family members will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. They would appreciate memorials to the Fairfield Park and Recreation Building Fund or to Jefferson County Hospital.

BUSSEY was born Nov. 27, 1921 in Allegan, Mich. (sic. Allegan, Allegan county, Mich.), the son of Walter and Nina BIGELOW BUSSEY. He grew up in Allegan, graduating from Allegan High School in 1939. In 1938 he began working for the Blood Brothers Company, which was purchased by Rockwell International.

He married Joan NASH Nov. 15, 1941 in Allegan. She survives (sic. Joan died just a few months after Lewis died, on October 14, 1983).

Also surviving are two sons, Michael of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Bruce of Fairfield; one daughter, Nina LISK of Fairfield; four granddaughters; five sisters, Mildred NASH of Arizona, Thelma KAYLOR, Theo PLOTTS, Reva HAYES and Freda ELLIS, all of Allegan. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.

BUSSEY began his career as tool crib attendant at the Allegan plant. He was named manager of the Rockwell universal joint plant in Fairfield and sent here to supervise construction in 1960. During his tenure, the local plant completed two additions.

He retired as plant manager March 1 after 43 years with Rockwell and was honored by both the company and community at a retirement party Feb. 25.

BUSSEY was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in Europe. He was named Fairfield's "Man of the Year" for 1967, had served for many years on the Fairfield Airport Committe and since 1980 had been a member of the Fairfield Board of Adjustment. He was a member of BPOE 1192 and Disabled American Veterans.
