Joseph E. SROUT Taken In Death

Joseph E. SROUT, Sr. (sic. full name Joseph Edward SROUT, Sr.), resident of the Fairfield community for the past 26 years, passed away about 11:05 a.m. Wednesday in the Burlington hospital where he had been a patient for the past four days.

He had been in failing health for the past several months and seriously ill for several weeks.

Last rites will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral home with the Rev. George Meyers in charge. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery.

Joesph E. SROUT, 78, was born April 18, 1879, at McClean (sic. McLean, in McLean county, Ill.) Ill., the son of the late Francis and Ella BAKER SROUT. He was united in marriage on Jan. 15, 1902, to Mabel NORVELL at Clinton, Ill. She passed away on June 27, 1951.

The SROUT family moved to Iowa in March, 1918, making their home at New London. The also lived for 10 years in Van Buren county before moving to Jefferson county in 1931. Mr. SROUT had made his home in this community since.

He is survived by a daughter, Frances SROUT, Fairfield; one son, Joe E. SROUT, Jr., also of Fairfield; and one granddaughter. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mae LIGHTHALL, Indianapolis, Ind.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sons.

Note: Buried in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa. Lot: Memorial 42 Space 5. The headstone is joint with his wife. Her name on her inscription was inadvertently spelled "Mable"; her first names were actually Jessie Mabel, with "Mabel" the more common use of her name.
