OLD RESIDENT HOME TO DIE

Mrs. David HOPKIRK, Sister of J. L. RANEY, Died at Jefferson Co. Hospital

Mrs. David HOPKIRK, died yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock, at the Jefferson county hospital, following a lingering illness. The funeral services will probably be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, from the home of her brother, J. L. RANEY (sic. John Loomis RANEY).

Mrs. HOPKIRK, whose home was in Boulder, Colo., was brought here about a week ago; for this being her old home, it was hoped that the change would benefit her health, but unfortunately she has been sinking for some time and the end came late yesterday afternoon.

Ida RANEY HOPKIRK was born in Jefferson county, August 14, 1866, and attended both the rural schools and Parsons college. For many years, previous to her marriage, she taught in the schools of the county and many of her pupils will regret to hear of her death. On June 13, 1901, she was married to David HOPKIRK, who was with her until the last. One daughter, Lucile, who accompanied her mother to Fairfield, returned to her school Saturday, she will however return for the funeral services tomorrow.

In addition to the husband and daughter, the decedent is survived by two brothers, J.L. RANEY of Fairfield and Sam RANEY of Salt Lake City.

* Transcribed for genealogy purposes. I am not related to the person(s) mentioned.

Note: Ida RANEY HOPKIRK was a daughter of William RANEY and Hannah Mary LOOMIS RANEY. She was born on August 14, 1866 and died on January 15, 1922. She was buried in her parents plot (1st.032) in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa, in an unmarked grave.

Her husband, David HOPKIRK, reportedly lived until his death on July 6, 1944 at Ft. Collins, CO.; his burial location is not specified in pertinent HOPKIRK family group sheets, however. He is not buried at Evergreen cemetery.
