Howard Eli Boese
November 04, 2003Howard Eli Boese, 86, of Lockridge, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at the Parkview Home in Wayland.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lockridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Lockridge Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after noon Wednesday at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m.
Memorials have been established to Lockridge Baptist Church and to Parkview Home of Wayland.
Mr. Boese was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Wayland, the son of Jake and Ocie Black Boese. He married Nellie Gillaspie Sept. 11, 1940, in Ottumwa.
Mr. Boese attended Franklin School in rural Washington. Mr. Boese farmed until 1948. At that time he became employed as a machinist for The Dexter Company of Fairfield. He worked there for 38 years until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement, he bought and sold scrap metal. The Boeses moved to Wayland one month ago, when Howard entered the Parkview Home.
His pastimes included gardening and mowing for various cemeteries. Several years ago, he had a large collection of gasoline engines.
He was a member of the Lockridge Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Canton Bilow Lodge, both of Fairfield.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ida Mae Leopard and husband, Elbert of Fountain Inn, S. C., and Delores Taylor of Morristown, Tenn.; one brother, Dale Boese of Selma; three sisters, Edith Nordyke and Frances Boese both of Fairfield and Dorothy Bartholomew of Washington, Iowa; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Boese was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Arthur Boese; and one sister, Mildred Boese.
