November 04, 2003Wayne G. Eckardt, 87, of Knoxville, Iowa, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital in Knoxville.
The body was cremated. A private family funeral will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Fairfield Senior Citizen Center or Hospice of Central Iowa in Knoxville, care of Nancy Jo Greiner, 1485 Circle Drive, Knoxville 50138.
Mr. Eckardt was born June 9, 1916, in Adair, the son of Oscar Nicholas and Julie Enders Eckardt. He married Betty Irene Wimpsett July 25, 1969. She died June 22, 2001.
Mr. Eckardt lived in the Fairfield community since 1969. He graduated from Greenfield High School with the class of 1935. He was truck driver at Scotts Transportation in Knoxville before his retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Julie Martinache of Mesa, Ariz., Ellen Kartesz of Gilbert, Ariz., and Nancy Jo Greiner of Knoxville; two stepdaughters, Peggy Sidwell of Fairfield and Connie Bailey of East Pleasant Plain; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one great-granddaughter; six stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Vernon, Lloyd, Everett, Walter, Leland and Joe Eckardt; two sisters, Edna and Erma; and one stepdaughter, Penny Glass.
