November 03, 2003June Elmyra Harder, 95, formerly of Muscatine, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at the Keystone Care Center in Keystone.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with the Rev. Diane Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Eliza Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established at the funeral home.
Mrs. Harder was born May 18, 1908, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of M. M. and Florence Green Steele. She married Herman P. Harder Aug. 6, 1930, in Keokuk. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Harder attended Washington County rural schools and graduated from Washington County High School in May 1925. She attended Iowa State Teachers College for 12 months and started teaching at a Muscatine county rural school in September 1926. Later, she earned her bachelor of science degree at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. She taught in schools for 38 years.
Mrs. Harder was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Newhall, Tri T, Delta Gamma, Rebecca Lodge.
Survivors include one son, Carl W. Harder and his wife, Doris of Newhall; one daughter, Mary Jane Mardesen of Rushmore, Minn.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
