Roy McCRACKEN

Roy McCRACKEN, 84, of Ollie, formerly of Brighton, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church near Wayland, with the Rev. Bob Spilger and the Rev. Carla Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Fern Cliff Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m., with family present 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.

Memorials to Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church, Ollie Baptist Church or Hospice of Keokuk County may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 401 N. Fourth Ave., Washington 52353.

Mr. McCRACKEN was born Dec. 14, 1927, at Clay near Brighton, the son of Rufus Hadley McCRACKEN and Mabel Elzanne LYONS McCRACKEN. He married Dorothy ELMORE Oct. 31, 1953, in Muscatine. She died Nov. 4, 2003. He married Delores Irene BABCOCK INGLES May 16, 2004.

He grew up in the Richland area through eighth grade and graduated from Ollie Consolidated High School in 1945. He worked at Crane Company in Washington, Iowa, for 23 years and retired in 1994. He sold Watkins products and delivered the Des Moines Register.

Mr. McCRACKEN was a U. S. Air Force and U.S. Army veteran and member of the Richland American Legion Post No. 504.

He also was a member of Fern Cliff Evangelical Free Church near Wayland.

Survivors include his wife; five children: Paul McCRACKEN and wife Wendee of Washington, Anieta McCRACKEN of Harrisonburg, Va., Andrea JOHNSON and husband Denny of Urbandale, Anthony McCRACKEN and wife Kerry of Milan, Ill., and Austin Perry McCRACKEN and wife Patty of Davenport; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lloyd McCRACKEN.
