By a letter from Orderly Serg't J. A. SPIELMAN, Co. K, 17th Iowa, we learn that his brother, Frederick SPIELMAN of Co. D, died in hospital near Corinth on the 3d inst. He was first attacked with remittent fever, and a few days before his death with chronic diarrhoea. He was 19 years old, a good obedient soldier, and always at his post.

SPIELMAN Family History: Fredrick (sic) SPIELMAN, born March 28, 1843, at Germanville, Iowa, son of John and Marie Salome (BERTSCH) SPIELMAN. An active, spirited boy, family stories say that he used to ride the horses in from the pasture on the run, standing up bare-back. The family have placed a memorial to him in the family circle in Evegreen Cemetery, Fairfield. His brother, John A., went to Mississippi in 1906 and endeavored to locate Fredrick's grave but like thousands of others there was no record.
