Maxine C. HOENIG

Maxine C. HOENIG, 88, of Fairfield, formerly of Keosauqua and Bonaparte, died at 5 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillsboro Cemetery (sic - in Henry Co., IA), with the Rev. Stephen Page officiating. No visitation is planned.

A memorial has been established in her memory at the Bonaparte Library. Memorials may be mailed to Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home, P.O. Box 56, Donnellson 52625. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.schmitzlynkfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. HOENIG was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Rockford, the daughter of Arthur and Edith BARTLETT WINFIELD. She married Frank H. HOENIG June 17, 1950, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in West Point. He died Feb. 25, 2008.

Mrs. HOENIG graduated from Bowen High School in 1941. She worked as a nanny for Colonel and Mrs. Bass during World War II. She also worked as a kindergarten teacher's aide at the Bonaparte Elementary School, at Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, and at the Houghton and Hillsboro post offices.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Hillsboro American Legion Auxiliary, the Alpha Club of Hillsboro and the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Boniface. She enjoyed watching baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She also enjoyed baking cakes and pies and reading.

Survivors include one daughter Yvonne HOENIG and husband Wade TROUTMAN; two grandchildren, all of Bonaparte; seven step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Betty CULLEN, and one brother Robert WINFIELD.
