Doris Elaine TOTEMEIER

Doris Elaine TOTEMEIER, 76, of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Park Place, Mount Pleasant.

Born February 21, 1936, in Fairfield, Iowa, she was the daughter of John R. and Mabel CARLSON HUPP. On October 6, 1961, she married Wesley D. TOTEMEIER in New London. He died January 9, 2010.

Doris graduated from Libertyville High School in 1953 and the Iowa State Teachers College. Doris received a Bachelors of Science in Elementary and Physical Education. She taught fourth grade at Argyle, Lone Tree and New London. As Doris and Wesley started their family, she became a homemaker and helped on the farm. Later, she traveled with her husband who worked as a journeyman electrician and returned to Mount Pleasant in 1991.

Doris played basketball in high school and had a life-long love of the sport. She also liked playing cards, crossword puzzles, trivia and mysteries. Doris avidly followed current events and politics which she enjoyed discussing and debating with family and friends. She had a passion for teaching and delighted in preparing pre-school lessons for her great-granddaughter.

Survivors include one daughter, Stacy (Dennis) SPEIDEL of Mount Pleasant and one son, Glenn TOTEMEIER of St. Augustine, Florida; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Cody) ALLISON, Des Moines, Daniel SPEIDEL, Cedar Rapids, and Andrea SPEIDEL, Mount Pleasant; 3 great-grandchildren, one brother, Glenn HUPP, Agency and one niece, Marcia HUPP, Iowa City.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Raymond HUPP.

According to her written and expressed wishes, there will be no visitation. The body has been cremated. A family gathering will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2012. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield at a later date.
