Irene E. MURPHY

Irene E. MURPHY, 92, of Iowa City, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Hawthorne Inn in Coralville.

A Mass was held today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with the Rev. John Spiegel officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.

Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City handled arrangements.

Mrs. MURPHY was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Muscatine, the daughter of Perry F. and Clara SHARRAR HUFF. She married Bernard MURPHY Aug. 3, 1946, in Muscatine. The couple divorced in 1977.

She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Muscatine.

Survivors include 10 children, Kenneth MURPHY of Mediapolis, Steven MURPHY of Iowa City, Karen REMMERS of Kansas City, Mo., Joyce MURPHY of Iowa City, Joseph MURPHY of Muscatine, George MURPHY of Iowa City, Helen MURPHY of Indianapolis, Ind., Edward MURPHY of Marion, Dennis MURPHY of Anamosa and Sarah FOWLER of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, MaryAnn HINES of Muscatine.
