Frieda M. HESSELTINE

Frieda M. HESSELTINE, 89, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Halcyon House in Washington.

A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of God in Brighton, with the Rev. Ryan Meader and the Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Interment will be at Eicher Cemetery in rural Washington County.

Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials have been established for First Church of God in Brighton or Washington County Hospice.

Mrs. HESSELTINE was born April 19, 1922, in Burlington, the daughter of Earnest and Mary IMMOOS WOODYARD. She married Irvan D. HESSELTINE March 16, 1940. He died in 2004.

Mrs. HESSELTINE attended school in Burlington. She was a homemaker and farm wife. She lived most of her life south of Washington on the family farm. Mrs. HESSELTINE also lived in Brighton from 1984 to 2005 when she moved to Washington. She had worked at United Presbyterian Home in Washington as a nurse's aide. She later worked in housekeeping. She had been in failing health for the past year.

Mrs. HESSELTINE was a member of First Church of God in Brighton.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She kept busy taking care of her garden and flowers.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen ZICKEFOOSE and husband Gail of Brighton, Sue WOODARD and husband Jack of Batavia and Connie WATERHOUSE of Washington; two sons, Lyle HESSELTINE and wife Carol of Washington and Dale HESSELTINE and wife Rhonda of Crawfordsville; one son-in-law, David HENDERSON of Washington; 18 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Fern BURNS of Lakeside, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter Linda HENDERSON; one grandson; five great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Bob WATERHOUSE; one sister, Frances RUSSELL; and two brothers, Floyd WOODYARD and Lloyd WOODYARD.
