Kathryn Elizabeth SUTTON

Kathryn Elizabeth SUTTON, 96, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the McCreedy Home following a broken hip and brief illness.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at beatty funeral Home in Washington, with Don Collings presiding.

Interment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery (sic - in Washington, IA).

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made toward a memory flag for the Avenue of Flags at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. SUTTON was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Elmer Katie McCLUSKEY McCOY. She married Lewis SUTTON May 29, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. SUTTON was raised on the century family farm and helped with the animals, the chores, gardening, canning and quilting. She enjoyed riding in her brother's airplane. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1934.

After marriage, the SUTTONs lived in Lockridge for more than 30 years, where they owned and operated the Locker Plant. The SUTTONs retired to Washington in 1992 to be close to their son and grandchildren.

Mrs. SUTTON moved in with her son in 2005. She moved into the McCreedy Home in May 2011.

Her biggest passions were her grandchildren, watching birds and squirrels, reading and working in her garden and flowers. She also enjoyed her great-grandchildren and Yorkies.

Survivors include one son, Dwight SUTTON and wife Nancy; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Rosie, Freeman, Erwin and Vernon.
