Mary Ellen White, oldest dau. Of Robert and Elizabeth White, born Nov 7 1866 at Newport, Va.; when age 5 came with her parents and one sister to Iowa and located on a farm near Pleasant Plain …..after completing her education she taught in the Jefferson County schools, later in Omaha, Neb., where she met and married Charles Van Nice ….. Was again married to J. A. Carleton Aug 12 1913. She died Nov 19 1925. Survived by her husband, mother, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Margaret Ulm of Fairfield, Iowa; J. M. White of Keota; L. H. White of Harper, and Mrs. Beulah Bram of Oquawka, Ill. Her father and one brother preceded her several years in death…..Methodist church at McDowell…..It being her request she was laid to rest in the McDowell Cemetery.
