Betty Gene SEIWERT, age 93, formerly of Richland, passed away early on March 31, 2012, at the Dallas County Hospital in Perry, Iowa. She was born on February 1, 1919 in Sigourney, Iowa to Arthur Albert and Olive Bell (THOMPSON) HARPER. Betty grew up in Sigourney and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1937. She married Clarence SEIWERT on February 15, 1939, at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. He died December 7, 2001. They began their married life on a farm near Keswick and moved to their farm east of Richland in 1948. She was a member of Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland and the Altar and Rosary Society. Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed music, watching basketball, and reading the newspaper.
Survivors include her daughters Sara SPRINGER and Louise (Larry) DeWITT, both of Urbandale; two grandchildren, Eric (Deb) SPRINGER of Canton, SD and Abby (David) McCLURE of Urbandale; four great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Emily, Mitchell, and Matthew SPRINGER; one sister Mary HAASE of Cookeville, TN; sister-in-law Ruth SEIWERT of Sigourney, a niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Clarence.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday April 3, 2012, at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland with Rev. Charles J. Fladung officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday immediately prior to the services at the church. Memorials to Richland Friends Cemetery may be left at the church or mailed to the family at Louise DeWITT, 4620 66th Street, Urbandale, IA 50322.
Arrangements are in the care of Gould Funeral Home.
