LOCAL GROCERY MAN SUCCUMBS, SERVICES TUES.

Edward Whitacre VINTON, 69, prominent Fairfield merchant for 45 years, passed away Saturday afternoon at 12:30 o'clock in the University hospital, Iowa City, where he had been taken the day previous. Death came after an illness of 18 months.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at the Methodist church with Dr. Lloyd F. Scheerer and Dr. U. S. Smith of Agency in charge. The body will be taken to the church from the Hoskins funeral home at 2 p.m., to lie in state until time for the services. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. VINTON was born April 11, 1876 in Brighton. He opened a meat business in 1901 in New Chicago at 305 N. 4th St, in the same location where he had continued business for 45 years. In 1910 he added a grocery line.

He was a member of the Methodist church and of Clinton Lodge. Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Catherine. One daughter, Elizabeth, preceded him in death in 1916.

Note: The two daughters mentioned, Catherine Anafay and Marie Elizabeth, were his wife's daughters from her first marriage. His wife was Rosa JACKSON THOMA, first married to Stephen THOMA who died in 1909. Neither daughter married, but both are buried in the same lot as Edward and Rosa under the VINTON surname. Wife Rosa survived Edward and died in 1971; Catherine died in 1985. All four are buried in Lot 2nd.007 at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield.
