Ruth BARNES

Ruth May BARNES, 78, of 1005 S. Sixth St., died at 10:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jan Burns-Hintze officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson County Park Wildlife Habitat for restoration or to National Wildlife Federation.

Mrs. BARNES was born Aug. 12, 1925, in Fairfield, the daughter of Walter and Retta E. CAVINESS SCHAFER. She married Lyle Butch BARNES Jan. 13, 1947, in Fairfield. He died May 2, 2003.

Mrs. BARNES lived all of her life in the Fairfield community. She graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1943. She was a homemaker and a waitress at Samuelsons Cafe.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Rick BARNES and wife Pam of Waukee and Tim BARNES and wife Toni of Keota; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two brothers, Richard SCHAFER of Clinton and Russell SCHAFER of Fairfield.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Geneva MOONEY and Mary Ellen SAMUELSON.
