DEATH OF A PIONEER.

Henderson GORSUCH, a pioneer resident of Jefferson County, died on the old homestead in Walnut township the 27th ult. Mr. GORSUCH was born in Huntingdon County, Penn., April 7th, 1820, and was almost eighty-five years of age. He was married to Sarah STEVER, a daughter of Phillip STEVER of Cassville, Penn., in 1842. They were the parents of nine children, seven of whom, as well as the aged wife and mother, are now living. The family came to Iowa in 1844, and located in Walnut township on the farm which has been its home ever since. Mr. GORSUCH was a man of energy and character, and always manifested a deep interest in any movement which had for its purpose the betterment of men or affairs.... Mr. GORSUCH saw Iowa develop from a wilderness to a garden and he had his part in the great work. His life in Walnut township was longer than any man has ever spent there and his record is filled with good deeds. Mr. GORSUCH had been a member of the United Brethren church since 1847. His body was interred in the Lower Richwoods cemetery.
