Erik COREY passed away yesterday at the Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 96 and one-half years. He was one of the oldest Swedish pioneers of Iowa .He was born in Asto parish, Ostergotland (sic - Sweden), September 7, 1831. He was the son of a soldier, Anders KORE, and the youngest of fourteen children. His father died when he was 9 years old. At the age of 14 he was employed by a farmer and in the winter time was engaged in hauling coal to the iron workers at Boxholm. He later learned the carpenter trade and learned the milling trade in a flouring mill at Mjolby.

At the age of 26 in the year 1857, he took passage to America, and located in New Sweden, Jefferson county, Iowa, where one of his brothers resided. He worked at the carpenter trade in Fairfield a short time and helped lay the first wooden sidewalks of the town. He also worked on the C.
