S. A. COREY, 75, DIES IN D. M.
Former Fairfield Resident Will Be Buried Here On Friday

Samuel A. COREY, a former resident of Fairfield, died at his home in Des Moines last evening, at the age of 75 years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric (sic - Erik) COREY pioneer residents of Jefferson County. His boyhood was spent in Fairfield where he attended the public schools, and also Parsons college for a few years being a member of one of the earlier classes.

He spent most of his life in Albia and HIteman where he was an officer of the Wapello Coal Co. After retiring from active business he made his home in Des Moines.

Surviving are his wife Deborah (sic - nee SLUTTS), a daughter of Mrs. Margaret JOHNSON, a sister, Mrs. J. S. GAUMER of Fairfield, and a granddaughter Janet JOHNSON. A sister, Mrs. Laura AHLIN, and a brother, Oscar R. COREY preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held in Des Moines Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Fairfield at 3 p.m. Friday; there will be brief services at the grave in charge of Rev. P. C. Ellis.

Mr. COREY was a member of the Methodist church. He was well known throughout the state and nation as a mathematician. He was a member of mathematical societies. Several of his original mathematical theories and problems have appeared in national publications.
