Paul CALHOUN, Local Trucker, Dies Suddenly

Paul L. CALHOUN, 55, Fairfield trucker, died suddenly Monday morning after he suffered a heart attack at Newton.

CALHOUN, who lives on a farm six miles southeast of Fairfield, was pronounced dead on arrival at a Newton based hospital. He was in the cab of his truck backing up to a loading dock when he was stricken.

CALHOUN left home at 2:30 a.m. Monday, driving to Des Moines where he delivered a load of merchandise. He then drove to Newton where he was scheduled to load.

CALHOUN had been in the trucking business for 10 years. He was employed by Southwest Freight Lines, Kansas City, Kan.

Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist church in charge of the Rev. Alvin Nelson. Burial will be in Forest Home cemetery at Mt. Pleasant. The body is at the Weston Behner Funeral home.

CALHOUN was born in Jefferson county July 15, 1910, the son of Osie and Luella GILL CALHOUN. He was married Dec. 12, 1934 to Edith HENRY.

Surviving are his wife and six daughters: Mrs. Norman SMART and Mrs. Tamadge SMART, both of Waycross, Ga.; Mrs. Carol BROBSTON, Libertyville; Mrs. Jack HAGANS, Fairfield; Mrs. James GOOD, St. Louis, Mo.; and Mrs. Janet McKENZIE, Fairfield.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren; his father, Osie Calhoun, Omaha, Neb.; and the following brothers and sisters: Avery and George CALHOUN, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Bertha NICHOLS, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Betty MITTS, Omaha; and Mrs. Dorothy JOHNSON, Rockford, Ill.

CALHOUN was a member of the First Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his mother; one brother and one infant son.
