Page 6, Column 4Charles McGUIRE, one of the prominent old settlers of Jefferson County, died at his home near Merrimac in Lockridge township at 5 o'clock Wed. morning Feb. 3. Mr. McGUIRE was born in Ohio August 12, 1817, came to Iowa 1839 and located in Burlington, then a mere hamlet. The following autumn he moved to Rome in Henry County, where he resided until 1847 when he came to his present farm in Lockridge township, Jefferson County. He was married July 9, 1846 to Miss Margaret ROSS, a daughter of the noted pioneer Sullivan (SULIFANT S.) ROSS, who with three sons and one daughter, survives him. Mr. McGUIRE was a man of the highest character and quite prominent in public affairs in his younger days.
