Alice M. SCHEELER, 87, of Brighton, died early today, Monday, March 12, 2012, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Alice M. SCHEELER

Alice M. SCHEELER, 87, of Brighton, died early Monday, March 12, 2012, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brighton United Church, with the Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Brighton.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Gould Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials to Brighton United Church may be left at the funeral home or church or may be mailed to the family at 1107 E. Adams Ave., Washington 52353.

Mrs. SCHEELER was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Dunlap, Ill., the daughter of Harrison and Blanche POPLETT DIMON. She married Donald "Doc" SCHEELER Jan. 26, 1946, in Peoria, Ill. He died March 22, 2010.

Mrs. SCHEELER grew up in Dunlap and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1942. In 1949, she and her husband moved to Brighton, where she was a homemaker.

Mrs. SCHEELER was a member of Brighton United Church and Krony Krew Bridge Club. She was a Cub Scout leader.

Survivors include one daughter: Linda COLBERT and husband John of Washington, Iowa; three sons: Gary SCHEELER and wife Phyllis of Brighton, Jim SCHEELER of Altoona and Tom SCHEELER of Winterset; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Jean ZUERCHER.
