Caroline M., daughter of Valentine and Mary KNEER, was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, January 9, 1851 She grew to womanhood in this county. She was united in marriage to Mr. John A. BRIER, at Brighton, Iowa, March 3, 1851 (sic. March 3, 1869). Three children were born to them, Albert J , Mary Florence,(Mrs. SARGENT,) and Elsie M., (Mrs. JUNKIN )
Mrs. BRIER first united with the United Brethern church at Pleasant Plain, and upon removal to this city joined the Methodist Episcopal church February 26, 1886, being a member at the time of her death.
The deceased had been afflicted for many years, being practically confined to her home many months before her death. In all her afflictions she was patient and kind. She frequently said to her friends, "I must not complain." In all her sufferings she seemed to be more troubled that others must have the trouble of caring for her than that she should suffer. She was one of those quiet, retiring souls, shunning the glare of public and shining most brightly in her own home circles. The end came quietly at 1:20 a.m , June 24.
The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the family residence, conducted by Rev. Thomas Osborn assisted by Rev. Pearse Pinch.
