Marion I. MARR

Marion I. MARR, 83, 304 W. Jackson Ave., died at 10:10 a.m. Monday, March 4, 1996, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery at Mount Pleasant. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church Elevator Fund.

MARR was born Feb. 23, 1913, at Keota, the son of Isaac and Lydia LEWIS MARR. On Oct. 1, 1937, he married Freda FERRELL, who died in February 1987. On Oct. 10, 1988, he married Arlena WINTER in Fairfield. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps camp that built the Lacey State Park at Keosauqua. He worked at the Clark Hatchery in Fairfield, the Baxter Hatchery in Mount Pleasant, and the shop for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a boom-truck operator for the Rural Electric Cooperative in Mount Pleasant for 40 years. A former 50-year member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, he had seved as deacon, church board member and Sunday school teacher for many years. He had been a lay minister in the area for some time. He currently was a member and elder of First Christian Church. He was a bormer member of the Mount Pleasant Senior Citizen Kitchen Band.

Surviving are his wife of Fairfield; two daughters, Mary Lou IVERSON of Crystal Lake, Ill., Ann WINTER LESHER of Itasca, Ill.; a son, Samuel Lewis of Tucson, Ariz; two stepdaughters, Sandra FORTNEY of Muscatine, Jane PHILLIPS of Seattle; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy COX of Salem. A son, Richard, preceded him in death.
