James Gilbert 'Jim' CAVIN

James Gilbert "Jim" CAVIN, 53, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, with the Rev. Troy Richmond officiating. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.

Visitation will be form 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jones & Eden Funeral Home and from 3:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, with the family present 4-7:30 and a prayer service at 8:30 p.m.

A general memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be sent at www.jonesfh.com.

Mr. CAVIN was born Oct. 3, 1958, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Gilbert J. and Ethel Marie PEPPER CAVIN. He married Lisa GREINER July 10, 1982, in Wellman.

Mr. CAVIN graduated from Washington High School in 1977. He was employed by the Washington Community School District at Lincoln Elementary School for 34 years.

Mr. CAVIN was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington and Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Jaycees.

Mr. CAVIN enjoyed working the sideline chains at Washington Demon football games and also assisting with the long jump event at Washington track and field meets. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, biking, walking, mowing grass, shoveling snow and fixing things. He was an Iowa Hawkeye and NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Heather CAVIN of Washington, Iowa, Brittany CAVIN of Dickinson, N.D., and Meredith RUNGE and husband Aaron of Coralville; one son, Michael CAVIN of Ainsworth; his mother, Ethel HENDRICKSON and stepfather Don of Washington, Iowa; two sisters, Lavonne VAN HORN of Aurora, Ohio, and Loretta BOSHART of Carlsbad, Calif.; four brothers, Mark CAVIN of Ainsworth, Larry CAVIN of Durant, Daniel CAVIN of Victor and Andrew CAVIN of Independence, Mo.; and two stepbrothers, Michael HENDRICKSON of North Liberty and Timothy HENDRICKSON of Woodbridge, Va.

He was preceded in death by his father.
