BATAVIA, Ia. - John D. SHIELDS, 62, died Sunday at Jefferson County hospital at 5:42 p.m. following a heart attack suffered earlier in the day.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. in Johnson Funeral chapel in Ottumwa. The Rev. Cecil Simonton of the Davis Street Christian church will be in charge. Burial will be at Shaul Cemetery.
SHIELDS was born Nov. 25, 1903 in Wapello county, the son of Loren R. and Mary Millie HECKART SHIELDS. He was married to Winnie DRAPER in 1924 at Ottumwa. For 11 years he was in the garage business in Ottumwa and has since farmed in the Batavia area. He was a member of Kilwining Lodge No. 198, AF & AM at Batavia.
Survivors include Mrs. SHIELDS and one daughter, Mrs. Wanda BARTLETT of Route 3, Bloomfield, two grandsons; three brothers; Dale of Wichita, Kan.; Clifford of San Diego, Calif.; Ralph of Eldon; and two sisters: Mrs. Gladys ALLEN of Libertyville and Mrs. Eula WARNER of Ottumwa.
